SuperBoy

Posted in Career, Media, People, Tech at 6 pm

Slow day today, though it should have been more busy. Got my machine at work set up to do some file sharing over the net, though it doesn’t work perfectly for plug-in file transfers, but I like the graphics that I worked up for it. http://orion.omsi.edu/

I also started a small page for a friend of a friend. It’s just starting out. Can you tell where I stole some ideas from? Why develop two sites when you can just make one? http://www.omsi.edu/~rosso/superboy/

I was also looking through some of the work I’ve done before… like the one I made for Amy. http:///sorry.it’s.private.com/:)

I renamed my hard drives to Betelgeuse and Bellatrix, after the stars that make up the shoulders of the constellation Orion.

I still haven’t put together the archiving solution for the page… It’s on the to-do list. Along with the Forest Puzzles to-do list and the Cave Inn to-do list and the Zoo to-do list and the PSU to-do list… Need I continue?

Knows What He's Doing

Posted in People at 7 pm

Late Afternoon on Sunday is relaxing. It’s been a loud and virtually a non-stop weekend with Jason and Co. in town. It’s nice to get back to some sense of myself. I’m putzing around a bit at work, catching up on some clean up and working more kinks and preferences into my new system. It’s coming along well. It’ll be nice to sleep in my own bed tonight. That’s been a rarity of late. Jason and Paul’s relationship reminds me a lot of my relationship with Ronna. I hope Jason knows what he’s doing.

Time to take a deep breath and recover from the weekend.

Jason and Paul of Clevland

Posted in Career, People at 6 pm

Been slow on keeping up, but I think I’ll make some more head way now.

I had been hitting a mental block at work. The Forest Puzzles project has just had me burned out, and it was standing in the way of a dozen other project. As of last night and today, however, I finally got some work done on the damn thing. Now I just got to get some photos scanned (which I’m dreading (and putting off) because my flatbed scanner is the most cantankerous piece of equipment I’ve ever dealt with.) Just today I got the final signatures on a new scanner (and a CD Burner!) that should be here in a couple of weeks, god and the finance department willing.

In the mean time, though, I’ve got to finish these photos up and pray that the scanner will be kind to me tonight.

In brighter news, I’m on verge of starting up a project for RODesign. It’s nice to have some outside work that I can throw some energy into. I sometimes feel like I’m beating my head against a wall with some of the politics (no worse than anywhere else, mind you) of an organization.

Today Jason of Clevland and Paul arrived and Amy and I picked them up at PDX. I had to rush off to work of course so Amy’s entertaining them this afternoon. I picked up some tickets for the Thrill Ride IMAX film here at the museum for Friday night. It should be good as both J and P are big rollercoaster fans.

Touching Bases

Posted in People at 10 pm

Had a good Saturday. Out of the house to see Amy’s friend’s cat. She’s alone while her mama’s out of town. After that, we did some shopping and had a bit to eat. It was nice.

Also called my dad and my brother. Touched base with the whole family.

Amy is angelic when she sleeps.

Sleepy. g’nite.

Air Travelers

Posted in Career, Life, People at 11 am

Much to do today: Call Karen about the peeling wall in the shower, Call WM about an IRA rollover. I want to add a better looking list of OMSI’s web offerings on the Online Activities page. Note to Amy: I found the original PSD files for Air Travelers.

Still need to call my parents and e-mail Teeg today. It looks like my friend Maurice will be visiting from The Netherlands in April. That should be fun!

Quake in OMSI

Posted in Career, Life, Media, People at 12 pm

Ah… Saturday Morning. Running laundry downstairs and trying to keep Simone off the top of the entertainment center.

Amy and I went out for a drive last night. We ended up in Longview, Washington. She gave me the grand tour of the town, which seemed more like a deserted movie set than a place where people live. It seems everyone goes to bed there at 11:00 pm on Friday nights.

Amy showed me the houses she used to live in and all three of the public schools she went to. She said it’s strange to think of other people living in the same house that she grew up in. I imagine it would be pretty weird, since it’s never happened to me. My parents still live in the same house they’ve always been in, since I can remember.

I decided a new project I’d like to tackle is building a Quake level of OMSI. I’ve been looking for utilities that I could work with. It looks like they’re all Wintel based, so I’m going to try to hijack some CPU cycles from a machine at work.

In addition to having a really cool layout for a QuakeWorld, I think I may be able to use it as a navigation aid for visitors. I’ll have to look into it. If you have any tips that would help me out, please let me know!

I Believe in Desktop Patterns

Posted in Apple, Life, Media, People at 6 pm

Friday morning/Afternoon, and I’ve finally gotten caught up on my e-mail, somewhat. At least it’s down to under a screen full in my general in-box. My Nick Cave stuff is still pretty heavy though.

It’s been nice expect for the construction work outside. I’m planning on spending the day with Amy, trying to relax. Yesterday was pretty busy, so when I got home, I debriefed Amy on it for nearly an hour straight. I’m not usually talkative, but I just wanted to get it all out of my system. I’m glad she’s so patient with me.

On my “I Believe” pages for Apple I added a few desktop patterns for people without web pages. They’re pretty garish as desktop patterns go, but some people like them. <http://www.zephyr.net/rosso/believe/>

She's a Peach

Posted in Career, Life, Meta, People, Web at 7 pm

Toady I’m doing part of a teacher workshop put on by OMSI. These are teachers with little or no experience with web development, and I’ll be giving them the basics. I’ll be trying to show them a way of critiquing sites so they can understand the difference between good and bad design. I’ve only got half and hour, so we’ll see how it goes.

Amy and I had a great night last night. Details unavailable. 🙂 “She’s a Peach…”

I got caught up on my e-mail back to about late Monday. I’ve still got stuff back to early last week… 🙁

I finally got a counter on this page. It will be interesting to see how many I’m getting. As well, I implemented that new error page for OMSI. It’s working really well from what I can see. The only problem is that if it works well, then no one will know it’s there… :p

Great Information Sites

Posted in Design, People, Web at 1 pm

Long day. Attended Amy’s PCOS Support meeting tonight. It had some good information, but I got trapped in the kitchen by a guy going off about his glory days. He seemed nice, but his stories were frightening. It’s a difficult situation to try and get out of.

Saw a great site today: <http://www.cool404.com/> has cool ‘Page Not Found’ pages. Some of them aren’t that great but there were a few pages with some innovative things on them. I worked on OMSI’s error page because of it: <http://www.omsi.edu/qqqqq> will bring it up.

Some other Web design pages I want to check out at some point are: <http://goldray.com/webdesign/design_resources.htm> and <http://goldray.com/webdesign/course-content.htm> but I’ll wait until I get back into work for the T1 access.

I’m so tired. I’ve got to finish reading a few digests, then I’m off to bed.

Great Coloring

Posted in Meta, People at 6 pm

Well, I popped into work to see how this thing looks… I like it. The color’s a bit dark still on that side bar but it’s getting there. Amy was expecting me home half an hour ago. I better get going!

My brother and I took his kids out to a kids’ workshop at the local home improvement warehouse. The seemed to have a lot of fun. My brother seems upset that they aren’t adults yet. 🙁 Maybe I just have more patience because I’m not raising them.
