A fascinating comparison of Puritan and Quaker Ethics provides some interesting insight into the dichotomy of our nations founders. It’s also something that shows a few of the items that Amy and I have discussed re: religion.
Her experience with the Xian church is much more along the puritan axis. Mine, not completely of course, has been on the Quaker side of things. (Though with a lot more guilt thrown in.) 🙂
An interesting quote comes along with this link:
For some reason, the most vocal Christians among us never mention the Beatitudes. But, often with tears in their eyes, they demand that the Ten Commandments be posted in public buildings. – Kurt Vonnegut, Cold Turkey

Dear Straight Dope:
After watching Dawn of the Dead, I am left to wonder about one thing: If we were to suffer an apocalypse where most of the living became flesh-eating zombies, how long, assuming I survived, would I continue to receive hydroelectricity from my power company?
Straight Dope Staff Report: When the zombies take over, how long till the electricity fails?

There were a number of interesting commencement speeches this season, but I really enjoyed this one by Bono of U2.

Yes, the Timbers lost tonight in a heartbreaking sudden-death overtime.
But, I found this and it took my mind off the loss for a little while. (This was much better than that damn phone.)
footsy, footsy, footsy…

It’s about time the us got some Political posters. euorpe has had them for litterally centuries. But in true AmeriCulture fashion, they’re all ironic.
Will we be able to trust our voting system… ever again?

Holy cow… The Timbers really took out the Aviators tonite: 6 to ZERO. 3 goals in the first half, 3 more in the second. The only draw back is that the Timbers only scored 5 of the goals…
And don’t miss this Timber article at OregonLive which is just hilarious.

Here’s the situation:
My hacked up GreyMatter scripts started running amuck on my Host’s server. Like “taking down the whole machine” kind of mucking. I had been on that machine since oh, 1998, so I’m sure it didn’t have a lot of security and protections that the current hosting installs have.
Anyway the new server also has a MySQL db that I can use, so I’ve now relaunched Dwelling with WordPress. It’s got lots of the cool features the kids have been talking about, and I might even start enabling them later on. But for now, a straightforward replacement for my GreyMatter stuff will do fine.
Besides, my wrists are killing me. I don’t need to start policing TrackBacks and Comments.

This is without even trying to watch things. I did quit and relaunch mail once in the past week after some interface weirdness with the mailboxes, but things have been pretty good:

Of course this also means I haven’t installed any updates in a while… I’m still at 10.3.2. I guess I should do a backup and give the ol’ software update a run.
Kinda goes against my “if it’s not broke, don’t touch it” instinct; it even overrides my “have the latest update, or at least the next to latest update” instinct.

After all these years… It’s on its way.

I’ve got a flash ram card and a WiFi card ready and waiting for it…
