This morning, after adding the link to the Non-pussies burb (thanks to VJ for pointing it out. ) I went ahead and added a new page to Dwelling called Meta that describes a bit more about this journal. It’s not got much, but it will be an ‘about’ page with some more substance in the future. You can find the link to the Meta page in the ‘intro’ block at the top and the ‘last week’ block at the bottom of the front page.
This weekend’s trip to GP ought to be fun. I’m gonly going to be down there for a few hours, butI’ll try and squeeze in as many visits as I can. Don’t hate me if I don’t see all of you who read this.
The Quotes contest has been a bit slow, only 4 entries so far, one of which was too big to fit in my pager’s display, something about Eureka, which I’ve seen somewhere. There was a Depeche Mode quote and one about stones, which I’m not quite sure what to make of. The fourth, however, is the current keeper.
I’m way behind on my e-mail, but what else is new? 🙂

I’ve worked at places that had beer bashes on Fridays.
But Martini Parties?
Yes, I’ve now had a martini at work. It was very good. Clayton did a very nice job, even incluing a lemon twist. I put on some Mick Harvey covers of Serge Gainsbourg, (From the album Intoxicated Man appropriately enough) and kicked back a martini with gin.
Boy it sure made the e-commerce project I’m working on flow pretty smoothly. 🙂
Thanks for all the strange posts via the pager form today. It made for a sureal experience, to be sure. 🙂 Feel free to keep sending them. I’m not sure if I’ll get them while I’m in GP, but it’ll be interesting to find out, no?

Tonight was different for me. I went out with my brother for some dinner. We talked for quite a while, nearly the entire time in fact. It was great getting a chance to let him get off some steam. His wife and kids are in Atlanta this month so he’s been a bit cooped up. I got home about 10:00pm.
Then I read. I did some reading rather than jumping right into my e-mail. Oh trust me, there’s e-mail to respond to aplenty, but getting some laundry folded, some articles read was a nice change of pace.
Amy was visiting her parents where her neice and nephew are staying with ‘gramy and grampy’. It’s been a bit quiet around here, though the cats have been dying for attention.
I’m still taking entries for quotes to use in upcoming journal postings. Use the paging form below to do that. I realize it was broken the last few days, but it’s fixed now.

“Even if cold fusion claims are bogus, we’ll undoubtedly learn a lot we don’t know about material sciences and electrochemistry, two fields vital to future scientific progress.”
Throw a few million bucks at it… See what sticks. This a good bet, imho. Either we learn more about basic physics, or we open up a new source of energy.

Since I’ve gotten a new pager, and I love playing with it, I’ve added a new feature to Dwelling. Instead of responding via e-mail. You can send a short (80 character) line of text directly to my pager using the text entry field at the bottom of each entry.
If you like to use it, send me a short quote you really like. The one that strikes my fancy will be featured in the next entry.
Don’t expect a direct response to your message, because I haven’t added a place for you to tell me who you are yet.

If only I could attend this one… http://zing.ncsl.nist.gov/hfweb/proceedings/proceedings.en.html
It’s a been a rough week: Trying to catch up on last week’s backlog, working on the response to the Computer Bits article which led to the development of the planned /webdev section, where I’m now making room for all the various essays and articles that I’ve written and jotted down; writting the syllabus for the summer class on web graphics I’m teaching; a friend and her husband visiting from San Diego; Amy’s doctor visit; tons of work at work (estimates, web development, client meetings); getting my new company supplied pager set up; …
Yeah.
Things are hectic. High stress. I can feel it all through my shoulders and neck.
Breathe… In…. Out… In… Out… Count to 20, plan the direction, then leap.
I hope I land soon.

My rebuttal to the Computer Bits article got published in their ‘Online Features’ under the title My Turn. Perhaps this will be a start of a continuing series for Computer Bits. The page isn’t laid out very clearly, but perhaps the next version will make more sense.

Now to write a real ‘Letter to the Editor’ so they can highlight the response in their print version next month.

This article had been bugging me since I first read it earlier this month. I had to fully respond to the horrid pronouncments and insidious half-truths.

I don’t mean anything personal against the author, but I just couldn’t handle it.

Though it wasn’t a very hard trip, I’ve been recovering from last week’s time in San Francisco. The Macromedia UCON99 went really well, and with my trusty Slim, I kept a pretty extensive journal of the week’s activities.

I quite enjoyed the trip, though it’s put me well behind in my real work. I’m going to be going in tomorrow to try and catch up.
For all you crazy cats out there with my e-mail address in your address books, please note that my new permanent e-mail address is rosso at the server bad-seed.org, and all correspondence should go through that.
I’ve had the zephyr.net account for 4 years now, but it’s future looks uncertain. When it comes to domain names, you can only trust yourself, right?
Slim, my Tandy 102 held up admirably through the trip and will now be a constant companion, for sure. To tell the truth, I like it’s keyboard better than the (non-Apple) keybaord I have for my Mac…
