I streamlined the access to the archives a bit, though I still want to add next and previous buttons. At least the pull-down menu on the Archive page only displays the weeks that actually have content now.
Really, I need to make this thing database driven. Maybe next year.
Thank god I’ve finally had a relaxing day. Amy and I worked on cleaning the apartment last night and it’s looking better. I got to the vacuum cleaner and got it working. Plus I took out a bunch of trash and did some laundry.

It’s been long week, but I’m making some progress. I finished off a bunch of things at OMSI and now have ZooWatch finished. I’m glad for that. I turned in my final timesheet. Damn I’m going to miss that place.
I ended up pulling an all-nighter to finish ZW off. I hadn’t done that in quite a while. Amazingly enough, I slept for just 4 hours then got up and I’m still doing okay. I think Amy and I have swapped sleep schedules or something.
Kam had a storyreading party tonight that was a lot of fun. Everyone had an OMSI or a Harvey Mudd (Kam’s Alma Mater) connection. Some really nice and interesting people.
I got a letter from Owen today. It was the strangest thing. He’s now living in LA. He left Portland in October, and seems to be doing well. I hope he comes to visit Portland again someday.
Nate (who took over half of my position at OMSI) got me invited to a Focus Group. They paid a hundred bucks. It was a lot of fun. One of the people at Kam’s party said they could hook me up with a company that does them on a regular basis. Boy that’ll sure be nice!
And tomorrow I tackle the vacuum cleaner!

Well it looks like IE doesn’t center the entries in the journal like Netscape does. I really hate that. I mean of all the things that a browser could do to differentiate itself from others, why does it have to display things differently?
There’s a few other things to change as well, but they’re much smaller. I redesigned the logo for this section as well. Now it reflects the current layout rather than last year’s. But you probably didn’t notice, because you have this page bookmarked, not the front page. Am I right?

Wow, that was pretty cool. I’m subbed to the ADV-HTML list and noticed that a few questions lately had dealt with Server Side Includes. So I posted an ‘INFO:’ post that noted that for further information on SSIs you could check out my XSSI library ( http://www.ordersomewherechaos.com/rosso/xssi ) and that I’m open for suggestions and comments. I didn’t receive much mail (just a few) but I did check my hits on those pages and wow! I had page fulls of hits on Tueday and Wednesday after the new digest went out.
I hope it’s helped some people out, that’s what it’s there for. Maybe I should update my front page with links to that section and the RegEx library I’m building.
Thanks for everyone’s coments on the redesign. I’m glad you guys like it.

Finally got around to finishing off the design for this thing, and I tested out the Archive which had been acting up last week. Last year’s file is good and solid, now this year’s can get started as well.
Got through some of those books and magazines and Fellini’s Roma. It’s nice to get those finished. I’ve been reading a lot lately. Not all of it, er – productive. I found myself reading details about the ships in Star Wars, details that are just… useless!
At least reading Philip K. Dick is more along the lines of what I’ve wanted to be more familiar with. Azimov is next. 🙂
Things are also moving along in the legal arena. I’ve got a letter to write.

Just checking in and trying the Journal from Kam’s place. She and I went tootling around town, and had a bite to eat. She’s been remodeling her house and it’s looking really good, though it’s still a bit cold in here… 🙂

It seems like there’s always too much to read. I’ve got three magazines here, 5 long web pages, 2 sci-fi paperbacks, two tech books, and non-textual sources such as Fellini’s Roma, Fat Boy Slim’s latest album and Thank you cards/Christmas cards to write, the InfoArch book to continue, the PDXWebDev pages to update, and desk that’s so beyond organizing.
That’s just stuff that I want to do.
Think about the stuff I need to do… :p

Well that explains something. It’s currently Week 0 of 1999. That’s where the Archive problems are coming in. Fixable, easily fixable. 🙂

Well that worked well. Any comments on the new layout? http://www.rossolson.com/rosso/contact/ Drop me a line and let me know. The color scheme is new for the site, and I think I’ll start adding it to the rest of the pages, but perhaps maybe it will be for the Notes section only.
Ah well, it’s getting late. Amy and I had a quiet night at home, a small celebration of the new year. A happy new year to all.
Let’s all hope for a better one.

Trying it out

I hope this works on the first try…
It may not, but what the hell right? Actually I need to make this line wrap out far enough. This should do it. It’s going to take a bit to get the archive back running again.
